Archival records and architectural survey of the Wolkenburg Spinning Mill’s office building. The building as the most important source for its architectural history

5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thu, 05 Nov

Description

The only surviving building of the Wolkenburg Spinning Mill has been subject to various interpretations regarding its function and date of construction. The (more recent) body of sources and a current architectural survey complement each other almost perfectly and can provide conclusive answers to most questions concerning the building’s history. The lecture explains the available sources and presents some findings from the recent architectural survey and structural analysis. It demonstrates how a detailed architectural survey can contribute to an understanding of the building, thereby providing a sound basis for its future development. An in-depth discussion with the audience on methodology and findings is very welcome!
