Dendrochronology refers to the dating of wood using its annual rings. We demonstrate the process from the collection of samples to the analysis.

Description

When studying historical monuments, determining their age plays an important role. Since the 1980s, dendrochronological methods have been used for this purpose: the unique pattern of annual rings in wood is like a fingerprint through time. However, not all types of wood are suitable for sampling. Taking samples requires a trained eye, as does the subsequent analysis in the laboratory. After all, only those who understand the structure can avoid misinterpretations.
