Training – Skilled Trades – Cultural Heritage

The Eberhard Schöck Foundation has been committed to vocational training and the promotion of the skilled trades for more than three decades, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. Through pilot projects and training programmes in Ukraine, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova, it promotes practice-oriented training structures as well as professional and intercultural exchange. The preservation of Europe’s shared cultural heritage is increasingly becoming a key area of its work.

David Junghans begins by presenting the Foundation’s work and an exceptional pilot project in Ukraine: since 2025, a new training programme in craft-based restoration, heritage conservation and architecture has been under development at the Lviv National Academy of Arts (LNAA). In collaboration with UNESCO, the City of Lviv and the LNAA, the Eberhard Schöck Foundation is developing training programmes that combine practical craftsmanship with the requirements of restoration and cultural heritage conservation. Against the backdrop of the ongoing war, the project is also contributing to the training of future specialists and the long-term preservation of Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

In the second part, Toni Lorenz, a metalworker and restorer (M.A.) and winner of the 2024 Saxon Heritage Conservation Prize, will talk about his experiences as a lecturer on the programme.
