History meets the future: reimagining places of learning

12:45 PM - 1:15 PM Thu, 05 Nov

Description

Anyone familiar with Aachen will recognise two buildings: the main building, which marks the founding of RWTH Aachen University, and the Audimax, a landmark of the post-Second World War reconstruction. To this day, both stand as unique testaments to the history of RWTH Aachen University, one of Europe’s most prestigious universities.

Preserving this architectural heritage for future generations is an enormous planning and construction challenge, which the Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW) will tackle with the ‘Main Building Façade Refurbishment’ project.

But how will the students of tomorrow study, work and shape our shared future in such a place steeped in tradition?

Answers to these questions are to be developed as part of the ‘Audimax Refurbishment’ project, carried out jointly by BLB NRW, RWTH Aachen, planners and contractors, within the framework of integrated project management (IPA) and using innovative, future-proof solutions. The BLB NRW will select the planning and construction partners for this project in the course of 2027 through a tendering process. The process will begin with a market consultation in December 2026.
