Hans-Peter Schmit
Vita
Hans-Peter Schmit, born in Leipzig in 1981, came to Thuringia to study and stayed. After completing his Master’s degree in Medieval History, Modern History, Political Science and Medieval and Early Modern Latin Philology at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, he held various academic posts in Jena, Leipzig and Freiburg im Breisgau. Most recently, he worked as coordinator for the ‘Schatzkammer Thüringen’ marketing network, promoting the Thuringian royal residences as a tourist destination. Since 2024, he has been managing director of Heimatbund Thüringen e.V., the regional association for nature conservation and environmental protection, regional historical research, heritage conservation and the preservation of cultural heritage. Together with the WIR! Alliance of Vogtland Pioneers, the Institute for Grey Energy, the LeerGut agents and the Baukultur Thüringen Foundation, the Heimatbund has been coordinating the development of the Thuringian Heritage Network since 2025.
