The KDWT is an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Bamberg. The aims of the institution are the development and cultural-historical classification of cultural assets, especially architectural heritage, the analysis and evaluation of cultural and historical prerequisites and techniques for preservation in monument conservation and the further development and integration of diverse methodologies.
Its unique selling points are above all the close connection between the humanities, engineering and material sciences in both research and teaching, and the high level of interdisciplinary analytical expertise.
The KDWT unites the working groups of Heritage Conservation (Prof. Vinken), Digital Technologies in Heritage Conservation (Prof. Hess), Building Archaeology (Prof. Breitling) and Building Preservation Sciences (Prof. Bellendorf, Prof. Kilian, Prof. Tauber). It also operates the laboratories for material analysis, dendrochronology and wood structure research.
