Gold leaf in restoration and heritage conservation – verifiable and documentable
Short description
The Eytzinger gold-beating workshop, which has been in operation since 1867 and is Germany’s oldest gold-beating workshop, specialises in gold leaf for restoration and the preservation of historic monuments. In collaboration with the Louvre, the special alloy ‘Aliénor’ was developed; this can be detected using X-ray fluorescence analysis, thereby enabling the precise identification of gilded objects. In addition, the lecture will discuss the analysis of gold leaf surfaces using lasers, and plans are in place to create a database for recording different types of gold leaf. All types of gold leaf produced by Eytzinger are certified and guarantee traceability of quality.
