The Erich Mendelsohn Initiative (2021-2026)

1:00 PM - 1:20 PM Fri, 06 Nov

Description

In 2021, Jörg Haspel and Regina Stephan of the German National Committee of ICOMOS founded the Erich Mendelsohn Initiative with the goal of nominating selected buildings by the architect for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. They are located in Poland, Germany, Russia, Norway, Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Israel, and the United States. Therefore, a nomination can only be made as a transnational serial nomination. Experts from all countries where Mendelsohn built—a total of nearly sixty scholars, archivists, and historic preservationists—are collaborating on this initiative.

The lecture will present the milestones achieved so far and the next steps, which will now be led by the Erich Mendelsohn Society e.V., founded in Berlin in 2026.
