Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps - a Serial World Heritage Property between Challenges and Opportunities

3:10 PM - 3:30 PM Fri, 06 Nov

Description

Since 2011, the transnational and serial property “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps” is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. From over 1000 known pile dwelling sites in the Alpine region, 111 sites were selected to represent the Outstanding Universal Value of this property. Due to their special conservation conditions in waterlogged environments, we gain an extraordinary insight into daily life between 5000 and 500 BC.

From the very beginning of the nomination process, the six countries with their 27 regions involved have committed to sharing responsibility for their common World Heritage - along with all the challenges and opportunities this presents for site management on both the local, the regional and the international level.
