Preserving historic buildings whilst insulating them: damp and salt remediation with Multipor ExSal Therm.

Short description

Damp and salts damage historic buildings, affecting their usability and fabric. To enhance thermal insulation without compromising character, the Multipor ExSal Therm system is introduced. This system offers thermal insulation, high salt retention, and enables capillary moisture transport, addressing moisture and salt impacts on masonry. Aimed at architects, conservationists, and contractors, it provides restoration solutions involving capillary-active internal insulation.

Description

Damp and salts are among the most common causes of damage on the lower floors of historic buildings. They lead to damaged surfaces, impair the usability of the premises and, in the long term, endanger the building fabric. At the same time, owners, planners and conservationists face the challenge of improving the thermal insulation of existing buildings without compromising their character.

This presentation will demonstrate how these requirements can be addressed in a single solution using the Multipor ExSal Therm renovation and insulation system. This internal insulation system, developed specifically for damp and salt-contaminated masonry, combines thermal insulation with a high salt-retention capacity and facilitates capillary moisture transport within the wall structure. This enables affected wall surfaces to be renovated whilst simultaneously improving the comfort of the interior spaces.

Drawing on the principles of building physics, the speaker will explain how moisture and salts affect masonry, what requirements this places on planning and execution, and what advantages capillary-active internal insulation systems offer, particularly in listed buildings and those worthy of preservation.

The presentation is aimed at architects, conservation practitioners, specialist planners, surveyors and contractors who are seeking solutions for the restoration of damp and salt-contaminated masonry whilst also wishing to improve the building’s thermal insulation.
