Citizen Science at University – Experiences from the Chair of Medieval and Modern Archaeology at Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg

11:00 AM - 11:30 AM Fri, 06 Nov

Description

This talk provides an insight into various citizen science projects run by the Chair of Medieval and Modern Archaeology at the University of Bamberg. The focus is on the projects ‘Archaeology in Schools’, ‘KeramBa!’ and the Archaeology Workshop. Whilst ‘Archaeology in Schools’ makes archaeological content accessible to a wide public, the ‘KeramBa!’ project brings together volunteers from the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, academics from the Chair, and students of archaeology within the framework of archaeological research projects. The Archaeology Workshop is aimed at those interested in volunteering and offers them a hands-on insight into archaeological working methods. These examples illustrate how citizen science fosters collaboration between the university and the voluntary sector and contributes to the communication of archaeological research.
