CLAY – Thermal comfort and humidity regulation with industrially manufactured clay building materials

Clay is more than just a traditional building material: as a material with outstanding properties, it forms the basis for modern, industrially manufactured building products and components. This talk aims to highlight the potential that clay-based building materials offer for thermal comfort and a balanced indoor climate. The focus is on thermal mass and clay’s ability to absorb and release moisture. Particularly in light of last summer, these properties can contribute to a comfortable indoor climate and energy-efficient building operation. Industrially manufactured clay building materials and components will be presented – ranging from clay bricks and clay mortars to clay plasters and other applications. Given the limited space available, the book also focuses on standardisation, building regulations and the potential applications of these materials. The added value this offers for resource-efficient and circular construction is illustrated using examples of completed projects.
