Dr Ipek Ölcüm is a specialist solicitor in construction and architectural law and a business mediator (IHK). She is a founding member of the German Industrial Association for Clay Building Materials and has been its managing director since June 2023. She is also a lecturer in, amongst other subjects, public procurement law at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR). Previously, she was Managing Director of the Federal Association of Mineral Raw Materials (Bundesverband Mineralische Rohstoffe e.V.), where she was responsible for legal matters relating to raw material security, environmental protection and subsequent use. After passing her second state law examination and completing her doctorate, she practised as a solicitor for five years. Her practice focused on private construction law, architectural and engineering law, and public procurement law. She then worked at the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt), initially as a legal adviser and later as head of the Market Surveillance Department and the Joint Market Surveillance Authority of the Federal States for harmonised construction products. In her voluntary capacity, she is active, amongst other things, as chair of the arbitration board of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU Federal Association) and as a member of the selection committee for the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s scholarship programme and at Bucerius Law School.
