Naumburg World Heritage Centre – Historic space meets vibrant interpretation

The Naumburg World Heritage Centre opened in August. Housed in the former bishop’s curia, directly opposite the east choir of Naumburg Cathedral, it has become a public space for information, exhibitions, education and social interaction. Overall planning was led by the practice Hartkopf denk mal architektur, headed by Prof. Regine Hartkopf. BDIA interior designer Katrin Steinert, working in close collaboration with her practice Steinert & Bitterling, developed the interior design and exhibition. What happens when a team specialising in the restoration of historic buildings collaborates with interior designers? This talk demonstrates how, in Naumburg, fittings, furniture and lighting were integrated into the historic context, whilst at the same time conveying the concept of World Heritage in a way that is spatial, sensory and accessible to all.
