Young Love - A New Perspective on Postmodernism and Post-Reunification Modernism

1:30 PM - 2:00 PM Sat, 07 Nov

Short description

It is argued that the architecture from the 1980s to 2000s is gaining recognition for its historical importance, prompting discussions about its preservation. During a panel experts will explore the uniqueness of post-modernism and post-reunification modernism, questioning whether different preservation strategies are required for these newer buildings as demolition rates increase.

Description

It feels as though the architecture of the 1980s through the 2000s is only just coming of age, and yet we are already discussing its historical significance, careful renovation, and preservation as a historic landmark. In the Anti-Demolition Alliance’s panel discussion at the Cultural Heritage Forum, representatives from specialized journalism, public outreach, and inventory compilation will discuss what makes post-modernism and post-reunification modernism so special. Do different rules apply to these young buildings? And do we need to identify their value and develop preservation strategies more quickly, given that demolition is happening at an ever-faster pace?
