Prof. Dr. Astrid Hansen

Vita

Prof. Dr Astrid Hansen headed the Inventory Department at the Hamburg Office for the Protection of Historic Monuments until 2025. Born in Darmstadt in 1965, the art historian worked for many decades in the field of official heritage conservation, including in Hesse, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein. Most recently, she led the ‘Postmodernism in Hamburg’ project in Hamburg. Since 2025, she has been teaching at the University of Hamburg and as an honorary professor at Kiel University (CAU). Hansen publishes on topics relating to heritage conservation and 20th-century architecture.

Young Love - A New Perspective on Postmodernism and Post-Reunification Modernism

It is argued that the architecture from the 1980s to 2000s is gaining recognition for its historical importance, prompting discussions about its preservation. During a panel experts will explore the uniqueness of post-modernism and post-reunification modernism, questioning whether different preservation strategies are required for these newer buildings as demolition rates increase.
